Visiting Lecturer Position
Applications are invited for a Visiting Lecturer position in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Northern Arizona University (NAU). This position is a non-tenure eligible, academic-year appointment beginning on August 21, 2023. The position is renewable pending satisfactory job performance, availability of funding, and program needs. The successful applicant will be expected to teach General Chemistry lectures, to supervise General Chemistry laboratories, and to teach lectures and upper-division laboratories in another chemistry area if needed (organic, inorganic, analytical, physical, or biochemistry). Minimum qualifications include a conferred M.S. in Chemistry or closely related discipline by the start date. Preferred qualifications for the position include evidence of teaching effectiveness and/or potential (e.g., teaching awards, teaching evaluations, or letters of recommendation), demonstrated enthusiasm for teaching (as evidenced by cover letter, teaching statement), ability to work effectively with large classes (120 to 200 students), ability to work effectively with other faculty to coordinate teaching efforts, and experience working and interacting with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds. The salary is $60,000 per academic year.

BIOCHEMISTRY ASSISTANT PROFESSOR POSITION
The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at Northern Arizona University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Biochemistry or related fields. This position is an academic-year appointment beginning in mid-August 2023. In this search, we welcome applications from scientists across the field of chemistry who pursue research and can contribute to teaching within the field of biochemistry. Minimum qualifications include an earned Ph.D. in biochemistry or a related academic subdiscipline (e.g. bioorganic, bioanalytical, biophysical, bioinorganic, or chemical biology) by August 2023. Preferred qualifications include (1) research experience at the Ph.D. and post-doctoral levels in biochemistry, (2) a record of publications and extramural funding in biochemistry, (3) teaching experience and evidence of teaching effectiveness in chemistry and biochemistry, (4) experience working and interacting with people from culturally diverse backgrounds, and (5) research areas that complement our current research initiatives in the department (including cancer-related biochemistry, materials science, environmental chemistry, and biology-related chemistry) and that are aligned with areas of distinctive excellence within the “Improving Health” initiative of NAU’s mission for its research enterprise (e.g. identifying and addressing health disparities, community health research, and pathogen science). Candidates with research programs that utilize existing campus instrumentation, including flow cytometry/cell sorting, confocal microscopy, ICP-MS, GC-MS, electron microscopy, NMR spectroscopy, and high-performance computing are encouraged. The successful candidate will provide excellent instruction in biochemistry lectures and labs, Master’s-level courses in biochemistry, and other courses aligned with the candidate’s sub-disciplinary strengths. They will also mentor undergraduate and M.S. students in chemistry and develop a strong research program that leads to peer-reviewed publications and extramural funding. Candidates with interdisciplinary work in biological sciences, materials science, environmental science, or astronomy / planetary science may have opportunities to mentor Ph.D. students in outside departments.
