The Alaska Travel Industry Association has hired Ruth Kimerer, ’90 BSBA, as director of marketing and travel trade relations.  A regional expert, Ruth possesses more than 14 years of sales and marketing experience in the Alaskan travel industry. She formerly worked for the Alaskan Railroad Corporation.

Kelly Sanford, ’91 BS & ’94 MBA, and his wife Lin (Hofmann) Sanford, ’95 BMED, were featured as “a duo in perfect harmony” by the Kansas City Star for their longstanding marriage. The two met at NAU during Kelly’s senior year. Lin was a freshman, and the two hit it off when she joined the choir, spending hours getting to know one another during a trip to a national music convention.  Kelly even stayed on at NAU for a master’s program so he could be near Lin. They were married in 1994.

National Library of Medicine Associate Fellow Diana Almader-Douglas, ‘92 BA, will spend the second year of her fellowship at the Arizona Health Sciences Library in Tucson, Ariz. She spent her first year researching mobile healthcare resources and the medical health blogsphere and improving a Health Literacy Web resource .

Educator Gina Chaffin, ’93 BSED, is the new principal of Santa Cruz Elementary of Maricopa, Ariz. She will guide the public school’s transition to a charter school. The former elementary teacher was most recently an assistant principal for the Florence Unified School District. She brings 19 years of experience in education instruction and administration.

Levindo Santos, ‘93 MBA, is the new chief executive officer of BRIX, the electricity and energy derivatives software trading platform creator, located in Brazil. He has a broad background in finance, working for such institutions as HSBC, Morgan Stanley and Banco Pactual.  

After spending the last three years as assistant coach, Kim Smith, ’93 BS, is now head coach of Bethel University men and women’s swimming programs.  In addition to coaching, she is a seventh grade mathematics teacher at McKenzie Middle School in McKenzie, Tenn.

Ron Glazier, '94 BS

We received the following note from Dr. Ron Glazier, ’94 BS (pictured above): I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Northern Arizona University (NAU) in December, 1994.  I went on to obtain my doctorate in School Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) in 2009. I have been a School Psychologist in the Gilbert Public Schools (3 years) and in the Glendale Elementary School District (3 years) for the past six years.  I am the immediate past-president of the Arizona Association of School Psychologists (AASP) and am very excited to be joining the faculty of NAU in the School Psychology Program at the North Valley campus. 

Dr. Richard Faidley, ’95 MED

Dr. Richard Faidley, ’95 MED (above image), is the new superintendent of the Boyertown School Board of Boyertown, Penn. With beginnings as a teacher in Arizona, he has more than 20 years of experience in education and administration.

Local sports icon Tyrone Johnson, ’96 BS, was inducted into the Flagstaff Sports Foundation Hall of Fame.  As a student, he played basketball at NAU, serving as team co-captain during the 94-95 season.  He is the senior recreation coordinator for the city of Flagstaff as well as Flagstaff High School head girls basketball coach. Tyrone is also co-president and coach of Flagstaff Hoops, coaching 17U boys and girls elite teams.

Paul Oakley, ’96 BS

Paul Oakley, ’96 BS, is vice president of communications for Bridgestone Americas. With a background in public affairs, Paul has extensive experience in managing corporate and marketing communications. He has previously worked as director of global communications and regional and public affairs for The Dow Chemical Co., and as account director of Corporate Technology Communications in Chicago.

Brian Lorimer, ’97 MED, has stepped in to instruct first semester history and economics at St. Gregory Preparatory School in Tucson, Ariz. He is instructing on behalf of a faculty member who is away on sabbatical.  Previously principal of Esperero Canyon Middle School, Brian has held several positions in the Catalina Foothills School District.

Deer Valley Unified School District principal Janet Gilbert, ’98 MED, joins Mountain Shadows Elementary School. Janet has spent nine years in the district and possesses 20 years of experience in education, from pre-kindergarten to college.  

Kelle Sweeney, ’98 BS

PetsPage.com welcomes Kelle Sweeney, ’98 BS (above photo), as operations coordinator. Kelle spent seven years as the assistant director of donor relations at Colorado State University, before committing to a full year of volunteer service in Americorps. It was in this role she met the founder of PetsPages.com, Karen Bostick. Karen was impressed with Kelle’s skills in communications and outreach, as well as her passion for animals. PetsPage.com seeks to educate pet owners about the benefits of veterinary specialists, which can often offer a higher level of care for specific medical issues. As an online social community, PetsPages.com connects veterinary specialists with pet lovers.

Elizabeth Hellstern, ’99 BA & ’07 MA, joins Flagstaff Cultural Partners as deputy director. Formerly marketing and public relations coordinator for the College of Arts and Letters at Northern Arizona University for seven years, she is a strong proponent of community arts and culture. From 2009-2012, she served as co-chair of the City of Flagstaff’s Beautification and Public Arts Commission.  Elizabeth has also participated as media coordinator and lead volunteer for the Flagstaff Mountain Film Festival. She is currently pursuing her masters of fine arts in creative writing at NAU.
