New Psychology Major Requirements
Starting Fall 2009
The Psychology Department is proud to unveil a new and improved undergraduate degree in Psychology starting in the 2009-2010 catalog. The new degree requirements include Foundation courses, Breadth courses, Depth courses, and electives. The new degree requirements are informed by the American Psychological Association (APA) guidelines for the undergraduate psychology majors and the St Mary’s Conference for Undergraduate Studies in Psychology.   
 
Freshmen and sophomore students should follow the new degree requirements.
Psychology Major Basic Requirements (BA* & BS)

You must complete 120 units of coursework as outlined below:

Psychology Major Advising Checklist

At lest 35 units of liberal studies requirements
At least 41 units of major requirements
At least 18 units of minor requirements
BA only - 16 units of language requirements
Enough elective to reach an overall total of at least 120 units

Be aware that some courses required for your degree may have prerequisites to take before enrolling.

Please note: You must complete NAU's diversity requirement by taking two 3-unit courses, one in ethnic diversity and one in global awareness.

Be aware: NAU requires that at least 30 units of the courses you take for your degree must be upper-division courses.

At least 15 of the 36 units required for this major must be from courses offered by NAU. These 15 units may not include individualized courses.

*You must demonstrate proficiency in a language other than English that is equivalent to 4 terms of university coursework in the same language
