Welcome
to the Psychology Department at Northern Arizona University. Psychology
is an invaluable major because it not only provides a foundation
of knowledge about behavior, but it also teaches you a method of
inquiry that will serve you well as move toward a career, whether
it be in a psychological, medical, legal, political, educational,
or business setting. Our major also provides excellent preparation
for graduate study.
What distinguishes NAU
Psychology from other programs at large universities is our commitment
to "Integrated Intentional Education" or the integration
and infusion of undergraduate and graduate education with scientific
inquiry and scholarly work. What that means for you is smaller class
sizes, especially at the 300- and 400-level, professors that are
active in scholarship and research that bring knowledge and enthusiasm
about psychology to the classroom, and opportunities to work with
faculty and graduate students one-on-one in research, fieldwork,
or independent study settings. You also have our firm commitment
to teach you the fundamental core knowledge of psychology and the
essential skills for your own development and future success. Faculty
areas of expertise include adulthood and aging, behavioral medicine,
child development, clinical psychology, cognition and emotion, diet
and exercise, health, history, industrial/organizational, linguistics,
neuroscience, physiology, sexuality, and social psychology. Currently,
we are undergoing some exciting changes within our department to
better coordinate our efforts and communicate our goals to the students
we serve. Have a look around this website and learn why our department
is excited about psychology and what it can mean for you and the
world in which we live. |
