THE HOPI TRIBE GRANTS and SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

(HTGSP)

 

 

BIA Higher Education Award/Hopi Education Award

 

These grants are awarded to eligible Hopi students pursuing an associate, baccalaureate, graduate or post-graduate degree on the basis of financial need as recommended by the college/university’s financial aid officer. These grants are awarded as a secondary source of financial aid to eligible students. Entering freshman must have a 2.50 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) for high school coursework; entering graduate students must have a 2.50 Cumulative Grade Point Average. Continuing undergraduate students must maintain a 2.50 CGPA for all college coursework; continuing graduate students must maintain a 3.00 CGPA for all graduate level coursework. Those students with an unmet need or part time students may be eligible for a Tuition and Book Scholarship. Deadline date for all awards are as follows: Fall Semester – July 1, Spring Semester – December 1, Summer -  April 1.

Maximum awards are as follows:

 

BIA Higher Education Award:     $2500 per semester

 

Hopi Education Award:               $2500 per semester

 

 

Private High School Scholarship

 

This competitive award is to encourage Hopi students to achieve and maintain a high level of academic excellence while attending a private high school. A maximum of two awards will be provided each year. Students must have a minimum 3.25 CGPA and submit three letters of recommendation.  Deadline is July 1.

 

 

Educational Enrichment Award

 

Funds are available to Hopi students who have been accepted to participate in educational activities that will offer unique opportunities to develop leadership, personal skills, or to acquire educational/pre/college experiences. Examples of such activities may include Math Camps, Pre-College Orientation, conferences, etc.  This award is open to students in grades five through post-secondary. The maximum amount of this one time annual award is 75% of the total cost up to $500 per student per calendar year. Parents/students must agree to contribute 25% of the total cost of the activity. Applications are accepted year round and must be submitted at least 30 days prior to the activity.

 

 

Standardized Test Fee Award

 

This award is for Hopi individuals who are required to take entrance examinations or professional certification tests. Funds awarded are limited to a maximum of $500 per student per test. These tests include, but are not limited to, the ACT, SAT, GRE, GMAT, MCAT, CPA Examinations, Bar Examinations, etc. Applications are accepted year round and must be submitted 30 days prior to the test date.

 

 

Tribal Priority Award

 

This highly competitive award is for students admitted to certain undergraduate, graduate and professional degree programs, to assist in obtaining degrees in subject areas of priority interest to the Hopi Tribe. (Listing of priority areas is available from the HTGSP office.) Recipients of the Tribal Priority Award must agree to render one year of professional services to the Hopi Tribe or other service agencies that serve the Hopi People for each year funding is awarded. Students must have a minimum 3.50 CGPA for all college coursework and must maintain a 3.50 CGPA throughout their program of study. Deadline for applying is July 1 of each year.

 

 

Hopi Academic Acheivement Award

 

This highly competitive award is to recognize graduating Hopi high school seniors with high academic achievement by meeting the unmet need for tuition, books, transportation, housing and personal expenses and provide a one-time award of a computer. Funds are limited to a maximum of $7000 per student per semester for a maximum of ten terms of study; eligible applicants must have a 3.50 CGPA and achieve a minimum 1040 SAT combined, or 22 ACT composite score. All HAAA recipients are required to re-apply and qualify each academic year to continue funding.

 

Any student applying to the Hopi Tribe Grants and Scholarships Program must be enrolled members of the Hopi Tribe. All information has been provided by the office of the HTGSP.
