Hisatsinom

Academic literature has referred to ancestors of the Hopi as "Anasazi" for decades. The Hopi strongly object to the term "Anasazi". "Anasazi" is a Navajo word meaning "enemy of long ago" [Anai'=enemy; shazi=old or long ago], that was used by the Navajo in reference to the Hopi. It is offensive and derogatory to Hopis since the Hopi never call anyone enemy. The Hopi term for their ancestors is Hisatsinom. It is a generic term for all Hopi ancestors and replaces the term "Anasazi" throughout this site.
