Counseling Services

Confidential counseling is available to all enrolled NAU students. Please take a look at our Eligibility and Costs page for specific eligibility and cost information. The Counseling Center offers individual counseling, group counseling, and couples counseling. (The Center does not offer either family counseling or child counseling, although counselors can discuss referrals to family or child therapists in the community.)

Trained psychologists, counselors, social workers, counseling and psychology interns, and graduate assistants provide all services.

Students come to the counseling center with a variety of concerns. Some of the more frequent concerns include adjustment to college, relationships, depression, anxiety and stress, substance abuse, eating concerns, academic concerns, and career and vocational issues. Students experiencing immediate crises may call or come in (during office hours) and meet with a crisis counselor that same day.

Our services are designed for students who can benefit from short-term counseling. In a one-on-one meeting with a counselor, the student’s counseling needs and appropriate services will be discussed. In some cases, referrals to community resources will be made.
