The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at NAU offers a wide variety of programs both rigorous and interdisciplinary in nature. Students may choose from several ACS approved undergraduate programs including traditional Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, and Biochemistry. We also offer interdisciplinary programs in Pre-Forensic Chemistry, Criminalistics, and Geochemistry. To further augment NAU's strong academic curriculum, the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry promotes research as an integral part of the undergraduate experience.

Chemistry & Biochemistry occupies space in three buildings on NAU's north campus in the heart of downtown Flagstaff; the Chemistry Building, Wettaw Biochemistry Building and the Science Lab Facility. A variety of modern instrumentation is available for use by our students. Facilities are provided by Chemistry & Biochemistry as well as Physics & Astronomy, the Colorado Plateau Stable Isotope Laboratory and the Merriam-Powell Center for Environmental Research, among others.

Construction of the Science Lab Facility was completed in Spring 2007. This state of the art facility is the new home for Instructional Laboratory Courses, the Chemistry Stockroom and the Chemical Instrumentation Laboratory.

Nation's Leader

NAU's unique location near the western borders of the Hopi and Navajo nations has strengthened the University's commitment to Native American education. The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is nationally recognized as the leader in training Native Americans for careers in the chemical sciences.
