Atomic Spectroscopy: FAA, ICP-OES

Perkin Elmer 2380
Flame AA Spectrometer

Computer OS: None
Software: None
Age: 20yrs

The PE2380 FAA is heavily used by students and faculty for both instructional and research purposes. Students enrolled in Environmental Chemistry (CHM440) use FAA as an analytical technique to determine Pb in soils, paints, and mine tailings. The Flame AA is regularly used by Michael Ketterer's research group. Under the direction of Dr. Ketterer, students use the PE2380 for analysis of anthropogenic metals in environmental samples.

As this instrument approaches its 20th birthday, it shows no sign of giving up. This machine is a real workhorse. Solid, dependable, easy to use and maintain. Data collection is simple and fast with the PE2380.

Perkin Elmer Optima 4300DV
ICP Optical Emission Spectrometer

Computer OS: Win2000
Software: PE AA WinLab32, v2.2
Age: 3-5yrs

Dual View (Axial/Radial) ICP Torch, uV-Vis Detection, Autosampler.
The Optima 4300DV ICP-OES is operated by Dr. Diane Stearns and is used primarily for research into the genotoxicity of uranium and chromium, however the instrument is also available to outside users through the Chemical Analysis Lab. Dr. Stearns' research is conducted as part of the Native American Cancer Research Partnership at NAU.
