NAU's Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry seeks to develop the scientific abilities of all students and to provide a strong background in chemistry for those interested in careers in the pure sciences or the health care professions. These objectives are met by offering B.S. degrees in a variety of fields emphazising Traditional Chemistry, Biochemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Forensics/Criminalistics and Health Professions.
Each degree requires a minimum of 120 hours, divided among major and minor requirements, liberal studies, and general electives. For more information, please consult the Course Listings.
Recently, the Department has placed an increasing emphasis on developing research projects related to Environmental Chemistry and Biochemistry. The Department also provides opportunities in areas such as Archaeological Chemistry, Immunochemistry, Exercise Biochemistry, Forensic Chemistry, Chemical Physics and Geochemistry, in addition to the traditional areas of Analytical, Inorganic, Organic, and Physical Chemistry.
