NAU soccer extends win streak, tops Denver

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Northern Arizona women's soccer team extends its win streak to three matches after a 3-1 victory over Denver Saturday night.

Sophomore Raegin Eyre scored the Jacks' first goal on a breakaway at the 33:24 mark. Freshman Kate Soetaert tallied her first collegiate goal with a score at the 40:05 mark, helping NAU (4-4-0) mark the first time this season the team has enjoyed a halftime lead.

Eyre's goal was her Big Sky Conference-leading seventh on the year . Her play tonight helped her extend her point- and goal-scoring streaks to four matches.

"This was the best half we've played all season," said head coach Tracy Custer of the first 45 minutes. "We played very consistently and I think we won just about every 50-50 ball there was."

The team secured its lead early in the second half when freshman Holly Jones scored her fifth goal of the season off an assist by Soetaert.

The Pioneers' (3-4-1) only goal came off a free kick by Andrea Raleigh at 57:48.

"This game was ours the full 90 minutes," Custer said. "This puts us at .500 for the first time ever. We're fired up going into Monday's game."
