FLAGSTAFF -- The Northern Arizona women's soccer team improved to 2-0 in the Big Sky Conference after earning its consecutive shutout with a 3-0 win over Portland State Sunday afternoon at Lumberjack Stadium. The win marks the second time this season NAU (6-6-0, 2-0-0 Big Sky) has been .500. Freshman forward Holly Jones scored her third goal of the weekend at the 7:01 mark off a corner kick from Kelly Flowers. Sophomore forward Raegin Eyre scored the second goal of the match early in the second half by tipping in a shot by freshman midfielder Sarah Pachan that rebounded off the post. Eyre and Jones are tied for the team and conference lead for goals and assists. Each have eight goals and four assists on the season (20 points). The Vikings (5-8-1, 0-2-0) couldn't break through despite outshooting the Jacks, 25-14, and taking more shots on goal, 11-6. Freshman goalkeeper Erin Beckman received the second win of her collegiate career and shares the shutout with fellow freshman Katie Maxwell. The Jacks are the fifth team to shut out the Vikings this season. The match also marks PSU's second straight shutout after losing to Cal State Northridge in overtime Friday night. "I told the team at halftime that I wanted them to put the match away," said head coach Tracy Custer. "We came out in the second half with more heart and enthusiasm and did just that." NAU returns to the road next weekend with a match against Eastern Washington Friday, Oct. 16 and Montana Sunday, Oct. 18. -NAU-
