NAU’s President, Dr. Haeger, approved adopting
Google
Apps for Education (GAE) in December 2008 based on the
recommendation of a committee that included a large number of
student representatives. After a lengthy legal review, a pilot began
on June 1, 2009. The pilot is going well and has over 100 active
participants. The plan is to migrate every student off the old email
system by mid-December. The migration will proceed in stages:
Faculty and staff already have the IRIS system, with strong enterprise
calendar and email. We recognize that GAE may be useful for collaborating
with students, so GAE account requests for faculty and staff will
be honored after we’ve taken care of students and alumni. However,
there are some data sensitivity and appropriate use concerns related
to employee use of Google Apps for Education. To address these
concerns, we ask all faculty and staff to agree to a
disclaimer,
adopted from the University of Notre Dame, before accessing GAE.

NAU email ends up in your GMail Spam folder; until we get the
problem fixed we need you to check the Spam folder regularly and

As of October 22, 2009, the Google Apps for Education migration is complete! In total, 54,249 accounts were migrated.
