Overview
The Counseling & Testing Center (CTC) conducted a survey of its clients and test-takers during the middle of fall semester 2002. The sample provided helpful data to better understand users’ satisfaction and appreciation of different aspects of CTC services. Results are based on the returned surveys of 106 individual counseling clients, 27 group counseling clients, and 91 users of testing services; 15 surveys of “forced referrals” (non-voluntary clients) were not included in these calculations. Office The vast majority of individual clients agreed or strongly agreed that the front desk staff was helpful and courteous (90%) and that CTC facilities (e.g., waiting area, offices, bathrooms) were adequate (92%). Individual Counseling Students felt that their counselors dealt with them in a competent and professional manner (97%) and that they would recommend their counselor to friends (88%). Most students acknowledged that the problem(s) which brought them in for counseling interfered with their academic performance (70%) and that they were satisfied with their overall counseling experience (83%). Group Counseling All most all students receiving group counseling reported satisfaction with their overall counseling experience (95%) and significant overall improvement or personal growth during this time (91%). Though the foci of the groups were not academic (e.g., eating problems, relationship issues), a high number of students reported that this counseling helped them to stay in school (68%). Testing The overwhelming majority of test takers reported a high degree of satisfaction with CTC’s testing services. Ninety-nine percent (99%) agreed or strongly agreed that testing staff treated them in a fair and professional manner. Ninety-six percent (96%) agreed or strongly agreed that the testing environment was quiet and free of distractions. Ninety-five percent (95%) agreed or strongly agreed that their testing experience was as pleasant as it could have been. Sixty percent (60%) felt that the times and dates offered for testing were convenient. Counseling & Testing offers its testing services to both students and community members. Of those surveyed, forty-six percent (46%) reported being currently enrolled at NAU while four percent (4%) reported being currently enrolled at Coconino Community College. |
