Computer imaging is a creative process that utilizes art and technology to communicate ideas and images. By controlling color, computer images, type, animation, and photography, the designer/artist produces images to inspire and persuade the viewer. Computer artists combine aesthetic judgement with technological skills to develop communication messages. They collaborate with graphic designers, marketing researchers, photographers, animators and printers to complete visually compelling projects.

Graphic design is a creative process that utilizes art and technology to communicate ideas. In the hands of trained graphic designers, messages are transformed into visual communication that transcend words. By controlling color, type, symbols, computer images and photography, the designer combines aesthetic judgement with project management skills to develop overall communication strategies for clients. They collaborate with marketing researchers and public relations specialists to develop design alternatives. Graphic designers work with illustrators, computer artists, photographers and printers to create compelling designs to effectively communicate the client's message. Students are encouraged to join professional organizations such as the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), SIGGRAPH, local user's groups, subscribe to professional publications such as Print and Communication Arts magazines and to read other current literature on design.
