Brief description of research and teaching interests:
My professional experience, prior to teaching, is in the field of Graphic Design, where
I have been working as a designer, art director and creative director for the past 15 years. I am interested in sharing this experience with the students, exposing them to theory and practice of Design.

I believe my role, as a design educator is to inspire, guide and facilitate the student’s learning process.

Representative Research and Creative Activity:
Patricia Murphey holds an M.F.A. from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and has worked in Chicago, San Francisco, Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and Flagstaff, for clients such as Hewlett-Packard, Sun Microsystems, Circle Intl., WL Gore, Oracle, Spiegel, Uno-Ven Company 76, BeggsHeidt Systems Architects and the Northern Arizona University School of Communication. At NAU, she has been working with student, public agencies and non-profit organizations providing high quality design services for clients such as: NAU College of Arts & Letters, The Environmental Services Division of the City of Flagstaff, Coconino Coalition for Children & Youth, Coconino Humane Association, COAR - Community Outreach & Advocacy for Refugees, The Scenic Route and the Flagstaff Youth project.
Her design work has won her a 1999 The San Francisco Show 13. Merit in the category: Stationary for the design of the Aquium Business System, and a 1999 ADDY Award. Best of Division in the category: Interactive design www.aquium.com
She was a co-author of: Preparing for the “Real World” – Student’s Portfolio Design and Client work experiences in the Graphic Design program at Northern Arizona University, presented a paper at the 2007 HICAH
She is also the principal of Patricia Murphey Design
