Research and teaching interests:
My current focus is a two-step process to help students prepare for the workforce in creative industries. The first part pertains to creating an environment that challenges and facilitates students’ cognitive thought processes as it applies to concept development for portfolio pieces. Once students have cultivated the ability to draw on strong concepts for their designs, students will have acquired the necessary foundation for the second part, developing better oral presentation skills. Utilizing visual vocabulary, students will effectively support their design decisions to reinforce their concepts. From feedback I have received from employers, students are currently entering the workforce lacking these skills necessary for hire. I aspire to help our students at NAU learn the value of concept development and oral presentation skills to prepare them for their future careers.
