Kimberly M. Melhus
Assistant Professor of Visual Communication
School of Communication, Room 311
(928)523-2217
Brief description of research and teaching interests:
As an educator, it is my ambition for students to pursue process and problem solving in design, but also to produce concepts and objects that unearth and reflect tendencies and directions within different societies. I want students to be passionate about what they create as well as being dedicated to the process of research and discovery of new creative concepts applicable to a client’s problem or needs. Presenting creative concepts is important in the classroom setting and I provide an atmosphere where the students feel comfortable doing that.
As a designer and an educator, it is essential to provide the necessary instruments of communication that enables the students to connect their desire and needs through imagination to a marketplace or community. Through the many different mediums of design, I want my students to be able to communicate to a level only imagined.
