Installing McAfee on Win98
Looking to install McAfee on Windows XP/2000/NT/ME?
Downloading McAffee:
- McAfee virus software is available for download
at ITS Downloads Click
on "Software Downloads".
This will bring you to the following page; make sure
to select "Windows" for the platform
and "AntiVirus"
for the Category.

- Choose the download for "VirusScan for Windows 98 4.5.1".

- This will bring you to an information page, scroll
to the bottom and click "virusscanwin98.exe".

- A download page will pop up, choose to "Save this file
to disk" and click "OK".

- A screen will come up allowing you choose of where
to save the file, pick a location and click "Save". Saving
on the desktop will allow you to more quickly locate the
file.
When the download has completed find the file in the
location you have just specified and double click
it.

Installing McAffee:
- The first screen to come up
will be an
information page about the license agreement
for NAU. Be sure to read the License
Agreement, if you agree with the agreement
click "Next". VirusScan
will then Extract the necessary
files, this may take a minute.

- You will then be asked if you want to restart
your computer click "Yes". When your computer
starts up
again it will
automatically start the setup utility.

- When your computer restarts this screen should come up.
If it does not start the setup again, this time your computer
will not have to restart.

- Click "Next" and agree to the "License
Agreement".
This will allow you to choose an install method.
Click "Standard Security".

- Then choose "Typical Installation".

- Click "Install".
The application will then install the files necessary,
this may take a few minutes.

- After the install has completed, the utility will ask
to "Scan Memory for Viruses before Configuring",
it is not necessary to scan now as you will be running
a default scan after installing. Click "Configure".

- You may wish to create an emergency boot disk, this
will help you to recover your computer from a virus should
one
destroy your computer. Be sure to have a blank disk
available if you wish to create use this option. Follow
the on-screen instructions for creating the boot disk,
when
you are
done, or if
you
choose to skip this step run the "AutoUpdate". You
must be connected to the Internet in order for this update
to take place. If you do choose to skip creating an
emergency disk you
can
always
create
one at a later date.

- Click "Next", and the "AutoUpdate" will
proceed with updates.

- Finally it will
show the following
page, leave "Start VirusScan" checked and click "Finish".

- After you have installed the software it is a good
idea to set it to AutoUpdate once a week, this will
allow VirusScan to clean and remove more current viruses.
Click "Start", you will find a new menu
called "Network Associates"
under
"Programs". Choose the "VirusScan Console" as shown below. You may
also notice that this is where you would go to create
an
emergency disk, if you wish to create the disk click
"Create Emergency Disk". "AvSync
Manager" may need to be enabled in order to continue.

- This will bring up the following screen.

- Double click on "AutoUpdate"
this will bring up a screen
with tabs choose the "Schedule" tab as shown below.
Check "Enable", this will allow you
to choose
how often VirusScan will check for updates. ResNet suggests that
you choose once a week, if you feel that a different
time may be more efficient then choose a time that your
computer tends
to be on.

- Finally click "OK" and close the VirusScan Console.
