DSL Modem Troubleshooting Guide

NAU provides network access for Campus Heights and South Family Apartments through the use of DSL modems. We have created this troubleshooting guide to help you through problems accessing the network. Note: If you live in any other residence hall, this guide does not apply.

Equipment needed:

If you are missing any of the NAU supplied items, please contact your RHD.

Checking Your DSL Modem Connections

  1. Check that you have all of the above equipment.
  2. Verify that the power cord is plugged in and the ready light is on.
  3. Verify that the NAU supplied phone cord is plugged in between the modem and the wall jack. There should be no other device between this connection. (see below)
  4. Verify that your ethernet cable is plugged in between the modem and your computer. When troubleshooting this connection, do not have any hubs in between. (see below)
  5. Verify that your phone connection is set up correctly. The connection for your phone must be plugged into the phone jack on the modem. Not the wall jack. (see below)
  6. If you still do not have a network connection, please contact the Academic Computing Help Desk at 523-9294.
