Tax
Identification Number
A
Tax Identification Number (TIN) is either a Federal Identification
Number (FEIN) or Social Security Number (SSN) assigned by
the United States Internal Revenue Service to a firm or individual.
A
US Tax Identification Number is always nine (9) digits in
length: never eight or less, never ten or greater.
Do
you have the vendor's Tax Identification Number?
- Best
Way:
The most accurate Advantage search method is entering the
vendor's TIN into Advantage's VEN2 table.
- Alternate
Way: (TIN not available)
Search the VNAM table for the vendor's name.
Be
advised, predicated on past non-standard vendor entry methods,
when searching the Advantage VNAM table, to determine if your
vendor is currently entered in the Advantage system, the vendor
name may be entered several different ways. Advantage does
not search by key word(s). Advantage reads left to right.
Therefore, when searching for your vendor, you may have to
search several ways. Example; when searching for "Eleanor
Roosevelt", you would search by "Eleanor Roosevelt"
and " Roosevelt Eleanor".
Vendor
is located outside the United States: (Foreign Vendors)
If the vendor is not in the Advantage system, contact Susan
Weaverling, Accounts Payable Coordinator, Purchasing Services,
at 523-6103 or e-mail at Susan.Weaverling@nau.edu for instructions. Foreign vendors shall obtain, complete,
and submit the Non-Resident Alien information packet, available
at Purchasing Services, prior to providing services to the
University. Foreign vendors providing services outside the
U.S. shall complete Form W-8, Certificate of Foreign Status.
Foreign vendors, residing in the U.S. shall have a Tax Identification
Number (TIN). If a Tax Identification Number is assigned,
a Form W-8, Certificate of Foreign Status shall be submitted.
