Other Types

Sub-Module Objectives:
An introduction to the other types of structural wood beams is provided. In general, these other beams are manufactured from discrete small wood elements that are glued together to form larger beam-type products.

Sub-Module Directions:
One class day will be devoted to this sub-module. To complete this sub-module, you will need to:
  1. Study the 2 sets of on-line lecture notes.
  2. Complete the reading assignment.
  3. Come to class prepared to discuss this sub-module.
  4. Complete the homework assignment and submit it as directed in the homework schedule.

Reading Assignment:
  • Breyer, Chapter 5, Sections 5.1 - 5.5.
  • Breyer, Chapter 6, Section 6.19.

Problem Assignment:
Complete the following problems found in your textbook by Breyer.
  • Wood beams, Other types, Breyer, problems: 5.1, 5.3, 5.7, 5.8, 5.9.
