Intellectual Freedom
The Cline Library welcomes visits from school groups interested in taking advantage of the services we offer to both teachers and students. Please be aware that this is an academic library with a strong intellectual freedom policy supporting research in a wide range of topics.
As school administrators and teachers, you need to be aware of Cline Library's policy regarding intellectual freedom:
Cline Library does not restrict, monitor, censor, or deny access to any library materials or information, including
the Internet, for any library patron, regardless of age or on the basis of content. We are committed to the level of freedom
of expression and access to information characteristic of a university library.
A principal or administrator must sign a release form (Adobe Acrobat reader required) prior to the scheduled student visit. Please print out this form on school letterhead, sign, and fax back to 928 523-3770.
Library Visits
Library research sessions for grades 8-12 student groups may be arranged by contacting the Cline Library Community Affairs Team at Library.CommunityAffairs@nau.edu. Your local library may be available for tours for grades K-7.
Library research sessions and visits must be approved and scheduled two weeks in advance of the visit to the library. If the library is unable to accommodate a specific date we can assist you to arrange alternatives such as rescheduling the visit or connecting to the library catalog and/or other library web pages from your own facility.
All groups must be chaperoned by teachers or school officials. The chaperones assume responsibility for the behavior and activities of the students during their visit to Cline Library.
We are happy to accommodate chaperoned groups of 15 or less. Please remember that this is an academic library giving
priority to research activities. We ask that all of our patrons and visitors behave accordingly.
Computer & Electronic Resources
We can provide an instruction room with computers, but prior scheduling is important as we are not able to accommodate "drop-in" groups. Students have access to computers located in the library’s public areas as available.
User Information
A minor may receive user services if a parent or guardian who qualifies for a community borrower card completes the online application and signs an authorization form. The form includes a statement that the parent or guardian assumes responsibility for all materials checked out by the minor as well as any fines that may result.
Please print this form, sign and fax back to (928) 523-6860 at least one week in advance of your library visit. The application for a borrower's card will be processed by the Circulation Department. A Cline Library borrower's card will be issued to the parent or guardian and distributed to students at the time of the visit.
Teachers, counselors, teacher's aides, or principals may not substitute for a parent or guardian.
