The ITS Department is entering a third consecutive year of soliciting feedback from NAU students, faculty and staff utilizing annual surveys. The results and trends are utilized to improve the knowledge and quality of our services.

Securing Network Printers

Securing Network Printers

Many networked Hewlett Packard (HP) printers on campus have not had their firmware updated to counteract a serious security vulnerability that could allow a remote attacker to snoop on, and take control of, unpatched network printers. Many of NAU’s network-attached printers have also never had an administrative password set.

Sophos Anti-Virus Software Updates

Sophos Anti-Virus Software Updates

This fall ITS will be automatically updating all our Sophos Anti-Virus users to newer, more capable versions of that product. Windows PC users will be updated to Version 10, and Macintosh users will be updated to Version 8. Both Enterprise and NAU home-use systems will automatically update themselves once the new software is made available on our network. Once the update is complete, a system restart will be required to enable the new software.

The Next Phishing Scam: Calling to Help Prevent Trouble

The Next Phishing Scam: Calling to Help Prevent Trouble

It starts with a telephone call from a company—let’s say Microsoft—and the caller identifies herself as a security professional who is following up on problems she has noticed through Microsoft’s remote monitoring service. This security specialist is named Tina, and she knows a lot about your system, but you’ve heard about the scams going around, so you ask for some more information.

Update for NAU Blackberry Users

Update for NAU Blackberry Users

For several years, ITS has operated a Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) to facilitate email, contact, and calendar sync features for Blackberry smartphones used by NAU faculty and staff. We have just renewed our maintenance and support contract on the BES  through June 30, 2013. A recent audit  has revealed that our campus Blackberry population has dropped dramatically, with less than fifty active BES users remaining.

Updated Web Browsers

Updated Web Browsers

This Fall, ITS will be upgrading Web browsers for our Windows and Macintosh PC’s. The updated Web browsers have been tested with most of NAU’s enterprise Web apps, and our Solution Center stands ready to support them.
