Turn on Windows Automatic Updates

Here's how to enable Windows Automatic Updates for your version of Windows. This requirement is necessary for Windows PCs to gain access to the ResNet network on the NAU Flagstaff campus. 

Windows 8

  1. Open Windows Update in the Control Panel by swiping in from the right edge of the screen. Tap Search, then Apps, and then Control Panel in the list of apps. Or, if you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, click Search, then Apps, and then Control Panel in the list of apps.
  2. From the Control Panel, click or tap on System and Security, then Windows Update, then Change Settings. 
  3. Select Install updates automatically (recommended) from the drop-down list.
  4. Under Recommended updates, select the Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates check box.
  5. Click OK.

Windows Vista/7

  1. Click Start, type Windows update in the search box, and then click Windows Update in the Programs list.
  2. In the left pane, click Change settings.
  3. Select Install updates automatically (recommended) from the drop-down list.
  4. Under Recommended updates, select the Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates check box.
  5. Click OK.

Windows XP

  1. Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl, and then press ENTER.
  2. Click the Automatic Updates tab, and then click Automatic (recommended) Automatically download recommended updates for my computer and install them.
  3. Click OK.
