VPN: Windows 8 Configuration

Set Up VPN Connection

To setup a VPN on Windows 8 follow these step by step instructions. 

Step 1

Press the Windows Key or hover your mouse over the left hand corner of your screen to enter the Start screen.  Once on the Start screen begin typing the word "vpn" to run a search. No search results will show at first, you will need select "Settings" in the menu on the right-hand side of the screen to show results.


Step 2

In the search results pane under the word "Settings," left-click "Set up a virtual private network (VPN) connection."

In the "Internet address" field, type "vpn.nau.edu" without quotes.  In the "Destination name" field, type a descriptive name, such as "NAU VPN."  By default, the check box for "Remember my credentials" will be checked.  You can leave it checked or you can uncheck it if you do not want your log in credentials to be stored.  When you have finished entering the network configuration information left-click "Create."  The initial setup for the NAU VPN is now created and you are now ready to connect.

Connect to VPN

You can connect to the NAU VPN in Windows 8 by following these step-by-step instructions.

Step 1

Go to the Start screen by pressing the Windows key.  On this screen, left-click "Desktop" directly underneath the word "Start."

Step 2

Left-click the "Network" icon near the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.

Step 3

In the menu that appears, left-click "NAU VPN."

Step 4

Left-click "Connect."

Step 5

Windows 8 VPN 5
In the first field, type "NAU\abc123" without quotes where "abc123" is your NAU User ID.  Type your password into the second field, and left-click "OK" when you are finished.  You are now connected to the NAU VPN.

Change VPN Login Credentials

You can change your NAU VPN login credentials in Windows 8 by following these step-by-step instructions.

Step 1

Go to the Start screen by pressing the Windows key.  On this screen, left-click "Desktop" directly underneath the word "Start."

Step 2

Left-click the "Network" icon near the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.

Step 3

Windows 8 Change VPN Login 1
In the menu that appears, right-click "NAU VPN."

Step 4

Windows 8 Change VPN Login 2
In the menu that appears, left-click "Clear cached credentials."

Step 5

Windows 8 Change VPN Login 3
Left-click "NAU VPN" and left-click "Connect."

Step 6

Windows 8 VPN 5
In the first field, type "NAU\abc123" without quotes where "abc123" is your NAU User ID.  Type your new password into the second field, and left-click "OK" when you are finished.  You have successfully changed your NAU VPN login credentials.
