How to connect to RDS

To get started using Remote Desktop Services on a Windows 7 computer


To get started using Remote Desktop Services on Windows operating system older than Windows 7, you must first install the client.

  1. Click Start > All Programs > Accessories, and then click Remote Desktop Connection.
  2. In Computer, type the Remote Desktop Server computer name: greenpc.nau.edu.
  3. Click Connect.
  4. The Log On To Windows dialog box appears.  Type your NAU username, NAU domain password, and then click OK.  You now have your desktop for Terminal Services. If you are off campus, precede your NAU username with the nau domain, "nau\".
  5. To log off and end the session, click on Start, then Log Off, then Log Off again.

To get started using Remote Desktop Services on a Windows 8 computer

To get started using Remote Desktop Services on Windows operating system older than Windows 8, you must first install the client.

  1. Access your start menu from your Windows 8 desktop, and click on the magnifying glass in the top-right hand corner.
  2. In the Search bar enter "Remote Desktop Connection" and click on Remote Desktop Connection.
  3. A new window will appear, in the Computer field type the Remote Desktop Server computer name: greenpc.nau.edu.
  4. Click Connect.
  5. The Log On To Windows dialog box appears.  Type your NAU username, NAU domain password, and then click OK.  You now have your desktop for Terminal Services. If you are off campus, precede your NAU username with the nau domain, "nau\".
  6. To log off and end the session, click on Start, then Log Off, then Log Off again.

To Get Started using Microsoft Remote Desktop on a Mac OS X Computer

To get started using Remote Desktop Services on Mac OS X, install Microsoft Remote Desktop from the App Store.

  1. Open launchpad and click on Microsoft Remote Desktop.
  2. Click on New in the top-left hand corner to create a new remote desktop connection.
  3. Make sure you are under the General tab.
  4. In Connection name enter any name you would like.
  5. In PC name enter "greenpc.nau.edu"
  6. In User name enter "NAU\" followed by your NAU User ID. In Password enter your NAU Password. Close the window to create the connection. 
  7. Click on the connection you want to use and click Start to connect to the Remote Desktop.
  8. To end the Remote Desktop Connection click Start then Log Off.
