Pin Applications to the Taskbar
Like its predecessors, Windows 8 allows you to pin applications to the taskbar. You can pin Windows 8 applications to the taskbar by following these step-by-step instructions.

Press the Windows key to open the Start menu. On the Start menu, begin typing the name of the application you want to pin to the taskbar. This will begin a search for the application (in this example, we use Google Chrome).

When the desired application appears, right-click the icon.

A menu will open at the bottom of the screen. In this menu, left-click "Pin to taskbar." The selected application is now pinned to the taskbar.

Pin Applications to the Desktop
Additionally, Windows 8 allows you to pin applications to the desktop. You can pin Windows 8 applications to the desktop by following these step-by-step instructions.

Press the Windows key to open the Start menu. In the Start menu, begin typing the name of the application you want to pin to the desktop. This will begin a search for the application (in this example, we use Google Chrome).

When the desired application appears, right-click the icon.

A menu will appear at the bottom of the screen. In this menu, left-click "Open file location."

You will be taken to the desktop, and Windows Explorer will open. Right-click the name of the application in the list.

In the menu that appears, hover the cursor over "Send to" and in the sub-menu, left-click "Desktop (create shortcut)." The application is now pinned to the desktop.

Applications can also be pinned to the Start menu. You can pin Windows 8 applications to the Start menu by following these step-by-step instructions.
