Word 2010 and Word 2013 are very similar in terms of functionality, but there are some key differences between them. This guide will show the important differences between Word 2010 and Word 2013.

When you start up Word 2010, you are taken straight to a blank document. Word 2013 gives you a list of templates to choose from (including a blank document) when you start it up.

The Insert tab in Word 2013 has two new features that were not in Word 2010. Word 2013 allows you to insert Office web applications and online videos into your documents. NAU ITS does not support Office web applications, and advises against inserting online videos into your documents. Please ignore these features.

In Word 2010, the Page Layout tab contains features for themes, colors, fonts, effects, watermarks, the page color, and page borders. In Word 2013, these features are contained in a new tab, labeled "Design."
The Profile Icon

Word 2013
Word 2013 includes an icon for your Windows Live profile in the top right-hand corner of the window. This icon is not in Word 2010. NAU ITS does not support Windows Live accounts and profiles. Please ignore this icon.
