Creating an Appointment

You can create an appointment in Outlook 2013 by following these step-by-step instructions.

Step 1

Open Outlook and left-click the "calendar" icon in the menu near the bottom left-hand corner of the window.

In the "Home" tab of the ribbon at the top of the window, left-click "New Appointment."

Type the subject of the appointment in the "Subject" field, and the location in the "Location" field.  For the start and end time of the appointment, left-click the calendar icon to set the date.  Use the drop down menus to the right of the calendar icons to set the start and end time of the appointment.  To set a reminder for the appointment, left-click the drop down menu next to the bell icon in the "Appointment" tab of the ribbon.  You can use this drop down menu to set how far in advance you want Outlook to remind you of the appointment.  You can type a description of the appointment in the large text field.  Optionally, you can left-click the "Recurrence" icon to create multiple instances of this appointment.  The appointment will recur at the interval you set.  When you are finished, left-click "Save & Close."  You have successfully scheduled an appointment in Outlook 2013.

Creating a Meeting

In Outlook 2013, meetings are similar to appointments.  The main difference is that you can invite other people to a meeting.  You can create a meeting by following these step-by-step instructions.

Open Outlook and left-click the "calendar" icon in the menu near the bottom left-hand corner of the window.

In the "Home" tab of the ribbon at the top of the window, left-click "New Meeting."

Type the subject of the meeting in the "Subject" field, and the meeting location in the "Location" field.  Use the calendar icons to select the date of the meeting, and the drop down menus next to them to select the start and end time.  You can set a reminder for the meeting with the drop down menu next to the bell icon.  Optionally, you can set the meeting to recur at a desired interval with the "Recurrence" icon.  You can enter a description of the meeting in the large text field.  To invite attendees to the meeting, left-click the "To" button to bring up your contact list.  For information on how to add names, proceed to Step 4.  When you are finished, left-click "Send" to send the meeting invites.

Left-clicking the "To" button in Step 3 will bring you to your contact list.  Left-click the names of the attendees you want to invite, and left-click the "Required" or "Optional" buttons depending on if the attendee is required or optional.  You can use the search bar to narrow down the list of names.  When you are finished, left-click "OK" to add the attendees.
