Funding Assistive Technology through the Arizona Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (ASDB)

This state-funded educational agency consists of several schools and programs serving Arizona school children and their parents. The Arizona School for the Deaf and the Blind is located in Tucson and the Phoenix Day School for the Deaf is in Phoenix. Other programs include the Arizona Diagnostic Testing and Education Center in Tucson, various Cooperative Programs, and Regional Service Programs serving several areas around the state.

Eligibility

To be eligible, a child must be an Arizona resident under age 22, and have:

  • A visual impairment (low vision to completely blind)
  • An audiological impairment (low hearing to completely deaf)
  • Multiple disabilities

To apply, you must be referred by the school district you live in after an evaluation by a physician. This is obtained by contacting your school district's Special Education or Exceptional Student Services Director.

Coverage

Coverage includes complete, integrated curricula for all students in all subject areas, organized as in a traditional K-12 learning environment with a boarding component. Special education is provided as well as individualized education programs. Preschool programs are available in the Phoenix and Tucson metropolitan areas.
