What should I know about
graduation requirements?

Applications for graduation
You should submit your Application for Graduation form the semester before you plan to graduate. Your adviser and department chair must sign the application. Allow about one month for the form to reach the Graduate College after you have completed it.

You must apply by the deadline published in the Class Schedule at the latest. If you're working with a statewide office, contact that office for this deadline.

We will process applications received after the deadline if time permits; however, your name will not appear in the commencement program.

Students who file for May graduation are invited to participate in May commencement ceremonies. Students who apply for August and December graduations are invited to participate in the December commencement ceremonies.

Summer applications
Summer degrees are awarded in August. If you finish during the summer session, your degree will be posted by the end of September. If you need a letter verifying your graduation, you may request this from the graduation coordinator (see the next section).

If you finish during the summer, you may participate in December commencement ceremonies, and your name will appear in the December commencement program.

Verification letter
If you need verification before your degree is posted to indicate that you have completed your degree requirements, we can prepare a letter of verification for you. To do so, we must have a written request from you for such a letter. (Telephone requests are not adequate.) We cannot send this letter until your graduation application has been received and approved by the Graduate College, so be sure to allow enough time.

Be sure to include:

Send your request to the Graduate College, PO Box 4125, Flagstaff, AZ 86011-4125, or fax it to the graduation specialist at (928) 523-8950.

Rush requests
"Rush" means we will post your degree at the beginning of the posting process if all of the following requirements are met:

To request a "rush" posting:

We begin posting degrees for each semester's graduation after all grades for the semester are posted and finalized by the Registrar's Office. This usually takes about three weeks after the graduation date. We post degrees about three weeks after grades are posted. An unofficial transcript will be sent to you shortly after your degree has been posted. (Make sure your record shows your correct address.) Your diploma will arrive about three months after the graduation date.
