The PIE accepts three types of students

1. Degree-seeking international students who do not meet the university English language requirements, but want an NAU degree, can enroll in PIE courses before beginning regular NAU courses. Regular admission to NAU is based on achieving the required TOEFL score and/or satisfactory academic English proficiency as determined by the Admissions and Scholastics Regulations Committee and individual department advisors. Degree-seeking students should be aware that gaining proficiency in academic English may take a year or more and may delay entry into degree programs. Students need to plan their course of study and financial support accordingly.

" The teacher let us feel comfortable and encouraged us to study. "

2. Regularly admitted degree-seeking international students may find several of the classes offered by the PIE helpful. Regularly admitted students may enroll part-time in the PIE while taking classes toward their degree Program.

3. International students who want to improve their English, but not pursue a degree from NAU, can enroll in the PIE as English-only students.
