What are the benefits of a Meal Plan?
Meal Plans allow you to eat on-campus without carrying cash. They offer you a great value as a student – in addition to discounts you receive when dining with us, you will not pay tax on your meals. With a Meal Plan you have guaranteed meals, and you will not have the hassle of having to plan, shop for, cook, and clean up after meals.
What are “Dining Dollars?”
Dining Dollars are currency stored on your University I.D. card, and can be used like cash in the dining areas and convenience stores on campus. Dining Dollars are an excellent supplement to Meal Plans because they allow you to buy snacks, convenience items, and meals without having to carry cash. They also help you save money, because you will not have to pay tax when paying with Dining Dollars.
How do I use my Meal Plan and Dining Dollars?
There are two ways to use your Meal Plan. The
first would be to dine in one of our all-you-care-to-eat
locations (The Hot Spot in the University Union or South
Dining in the du Bois Center). Each entry into the dining
location deduct one of the meals from your weekly or
semester allotment, depending upon the type of Meal
Plan you own.
The other option is to use your Meal Plan at one of our on-campus retail locations. At these retail locations, your meal allotment can be applied toward a “Transfer Special” purchase. Each retail location offers at least one of these daily specials for you during each meal period they are open. You can use one of your weekly or semester meal allotments to purchase a Transfer Special.
If you need something to munch on or if you have used all your meals for the week or semester, you may use Dining Dollars to make dining purchases. Choose the items you would like and inform the cashier that your purchase will be made with Dining Dollars.
What are Block Plans?
Block Plans allow upperclassmen to buy a “block”
of 100 or 150 meals at the beginning of the semester.
These meals can be used throughout the semester the
same way the traditional Meal Plan is used.
Block Plans are not the best buy for students who plan on eating 10 or more meals on campus. However, Block Plans are a perfect fit for those who are light eaters or who commute to campus.
Where can I eat?
There are 15+ retail locations and 2 all-you-care-to-eat
dining rooms on the NAU campus. Meal Plans and Dining
Dollars are accepted at any of those locations. Also,
if you are looking to re-stock the fridge or need some
laundry detergent, check out one of our two convenience
stores, which gladly accept your Dining Dollars! Cash
and Credit Cards are also an accepted form of payment
in all retail locations, dining rooms, and convenience
stores.
When can I eat?
With the new Meal Plans, you can eat your designated
number of meals whenever you want, as long as you do
not exceed your weekly or semester allotment. The operating
hours of each of our dining locations are posted here.
What are Transfer Specials?
Transfer Specials are specials created for each retail location, and can be used as one of your weekly or semester meal allotments. These special changes from meal to meal and from day to day. There are also one or more specials at each retail location, so eat up!
What if I am sick?
If you are unable to leave your residence hall
to eat, give us a call. The Hot Spot and South Dining
will allow a meal to be picked up for you if you are
unable to get out of bed! Call 523-2372 and you will
be connected with a manager who will be able to help.
