Welcome New Staff & Faculty!

I will guess that you are quite busy (overwhelmed?) with all the new faces, information, and tasks at present. So, I'll be brief...

The Counseling Center (CC; diagonally across from Cline Library) is a resource for faculty in a number of ways:

  • We can consult with you about a student whose emotional issues and/or behaviors are a concern to you.
  • You can refer students to CC for consultation with our professional staff. Depending on our assessment, we might then recommend a drug/alcohol screening, individual, couple's, or group counseling, and/or a medication evaluation.
  • A counselor is on-call 24-7 for emergency consultations, assessment and intervention.

When you get time to surf, please visit our entire website at www.nau.edu/counseling/. If there are other ways we can be helpful to you as you work with students, please let us know.

Again, welcome. I hope your learning curve during your first year at NAU is not too steep!

Sincerely,
Chris Gunn

PS: To get some perspective on what your students may be experiencing, I recommend Richard Kadison's College Of The Overwhelmed: The Campus Mental Health Crisis and What To Do About It (2004).

PSS. We've also created a brief and helpful guide just for Staff and Faculty.
