Welcome New Staff & Faculty!
I will guess that you are quite busy (overwhelmed?) with all the new faces, information, and tasks at present. So, I'll be brief...
The Counseling & Testing Center (CTC; diagonally across from Cline Library) is a resource for faculty in a number of ways:
- We can consult with you about a student whose emotional issues and/or behaviors are a concern to you.
- You can refer students to CTC for consultation with our professional staff. Depending on our assessment, we might then recommend a drug/alcohol screening, individual, couple's, or group counseling, and/or a medication evaluation.
- Students can be referred to us for emergency assessment and intervention.
- If you are teaching a web-based or ITV course, we may be able to provide a venue and proctors for your exams. Please contact us with your questions about this new service.
- You may suggest to students they explore options to get credit, place out of college classes, and/or to prepare for life after college. Examples of tests administered by CTC include: CLEP, correspondence tests, MCAT, GRE, MAT, MBTI, TOEFL, and national certification and licensing exams.
When you get time to surf, please visit our entire website at http://www.nau.edu/ctc/. If there are other ways we can be helpful to you as you work with students, please let us know.
Again, welcome. I hope your learning curve during your first year at NAU is not too steep!
Sincerely,

PS: To get some perspective on what your students may be experiencing, I recommend Richard Kadison's College Of The Overwhelmed: The Campus Mental Health Crisis and What To Do About It (2004).
