Term
Minimum
Maximum
Regular 15-week semester 3 credit hours 12 credit hours
10-week summer session 3 credit hours 9 credit hours

1. Some exceptions to the GPA and 60 hour requirement may be made by the internship director after review of application.
2. Students wishing to earn 12 hours of credit during the summer may do so by working for more than 10 weeks. This must be approved by the internship director.

The approximate breakdown of agency hours to credit equivalency is given below:

Spring and Fall Semester - 15 Weeks

Required Hours Per Week Required Hours Per Semester Credit Hours
10 hrs/week 150 hrs/semester 3 credit hours
20 hrs/week 300 hrs/semester 6 credit hours
30 hrs/week 450 hrs/semester 9 credit hours
40 hrs/week 600 hrs/semester 12 credit hours

Summer Semester - 10 Weeks

Required Hours Per Week Required Hours Per Semester Credit Hours
20 hrs/week 200 hrs/semester 4 credit hours
30 hrs/week 300 hrs/semester 6 credit hours
40 hrs/week 400 hrs/semester 8 credit hours

Approximately 50 hours of internship work is required for each hour of college credit. Summer internships can be 15 weeks and valued the same as fall or spring semester with prior approval of the internship director.
*CJ 408 is graded pass (P) or fail (F).

NOTE:

No internship credit will be granted for work done in a semester or semesters prior to submission and approval of internship application.
Students are not permitted to intern in an agency of current employment without prior approval by the internship director and agency.
Students on internships are not insured by NAU for injury or harm they may cause to others. Some agencies, however, do insure their interns. Students should ask their agency if such coverage is available.
