English 105 
  • Course Goals: English 105, a four-credit-hour course, introduces students to critical reading and writing in the academic environment. Throughout the semester students practice the following academic skills:
  • 1. Critical reading skills through close attention to text content & skills needed to interpret the text effectively 
    2. Analytical writing skills through attention to the writing process and to rhetorical techniques
    3. Critical reading and analytical writing skills through an extended writing project 
    4. Technological literacy skills to rhetorically analyze online resources based on the audience addressed, the purpose explored, and the language used

English 205

  • Course Goals: English 205 is a two-credit-hour course which focuses on writing principles necessary for systematic inquiry into the forms and techniques of academic writing standards. Students practice the following:
     
    1. Advanced analytical thinking, reading, and writing skills 
    2. Advanced critical writing and argumentation skills 
    3. Advanced research skills 

English 305

  • Course Goals: English 305 explores the principles of writing found across disciplines where language is used to inform, instruct, persuade, or report to an audience. Students practice the following:
  • 1. Advanced critical reading and analytical writing skills through close attention to text content & skills from multiple disciplines.
    2. To respond to writing expectations of the specific disciplines that students come from. 
    3. Analysis of document design.
