Easy Rider
(Directed by Dennis Hopper, released in 1969 and duration is 94 minutes.)
"Hopper's cult classic, this feature is an extremely atmospheric, politically interesting film about social alienation, liberation and generation gaps. The film is not as much about events as it is about people and environments as Hopper and Fonda are portraying a void - one they experience or one they want to experience. What's most impressive, however, is the way the film still keeps its relevance today; these are people, not characters - even though they are all somewhat caricatured." --Fredrik Gunerius Fevang
April 29, 2008 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Cline Library Assembly Hall
"Manhattan"
(Released in 1976, 96 minutes long and directed by Woody Allen.) The immaculate black and white photography, the aural delight of the Gershwin score, the culinary crumbs of food and drink scattered throughout the movie create a film that, at a sensual and emotional level, is Woody Allen's best. Woody's persona in Manhattan is Isaac Davis, whose neuroses and pathetic vulnerability are combined with professional dissatisfaction and romantic entanglement – trapped between a comfortable relationship with Tracy (Mariel Hemingway) a girl less than half his age, and a burgeoning attraction to an attractive but intellectually combative Mary (Diane Keaton). -Dan Jardine

"Do the Right Thing"
(Spike Lee directs this film, released in 1989 and running time is 120 minutes.)" The story is set on the hottest day of the year in the Brooklyn's Bed-Stuy neighborhood. Director Lee draws outstanding performances from his cast: Danny Aiello (as Sal, the Pizzeria owner), Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee, Giancarlo Esposito, Bill Nunn, John Turturro, Richard Edson, his sister Joie Lee and Rosie Perez (in her film debut), as well as Roger Guenveur Smith and Samuel L. Jackson". -
