Lee C. Drickamer Research Interests

The MouseAt the present time my NAU research program is being developed (1998-1999). One current component involves studies of mate choice in house mice. This project, funded by NSF, is exploring the consequences of free female and male mate choice with respect to progeny production, progeny viability, and traits of the progeny related to fitness. A second component of my program will involve studies of Gunnison's prairie dogs in terms of habitat features that predict where they live and where they don't live, their population genetics, presence or absence of plague, and overall rodent community structure. A third component will employ one or several insect species for studies of variation in sex ratio and factors that influence such variation. As in the past, I would also be happy to work with students interested in various aspects of avian behavioral ecology in natural settings. Finally, I retain my longterm interest in rodent chemosignals and olfactory communication in rodents.
