AEROSPACE STUDIES 100 COURSE DESCRIPTION

THE FOUNDATIONS OF THE UNITED UNITED STATES AIR FORCE                            

A survey course focusing on the organizational structure and missions of Air Force organizations, military customs and courtesies, officer ship and core values, and an introduction to written and oral communication skills.

The academic class is taken in conjunction with leadership laboratory (LLAB). The academic class and LLAB are each one credit hour classes. The AS 100 curriculum is traditionally taken during the freshman year (AS 101-Fall, AS 102-Spring).

AEROSPACE STUDIES 200 COURSE DESCRIPTION

INTRODUCTION TO THE UNITED STATES AIR FORCE

This course covers a historical survey of trends, events, and policies that led to the emergence of air power from the first balloons and dirigibles through the Persian Gulf War. It also provides an introduction to basic leadership and management skills, ethical decision making, and basic communication skills. AS 200 is taken in conjunction with AS 200 leadership laboratory (LLAB).. The academic class and LLAB are each one credit hour classes. The AS 200 curriculum is traditionally taken during the sophomore year (AS 201-Fall, AS 202-Spring). The course also prepares students to attend Field Training.

AEROSPACE STUDIES 300 COURSE DESCRIPTION

AIR FORCE LEADERSHIP STUDIES

A study of leadership and quality management fundamentals, professional knowledge, leadership ethics, and communicative skills required of an Air Force junior officer. Case studies are used to examine Air Force leadership and management situations as a means of demonstrating and exercising practical application of the concepts being studied. A mandatory leadership laboratory (LLAB) complements this course by providing advanced leadership experiences in officer-type activities, giving students the opportunity to apply leadership and management principles of this course.

The academic class is three credit hours and the LLAB is a one credit hour class. The AS 300 curriculum is traditionally taken during the junior year (AS 301-Fall, AS 302-Spring).

AEROSPACE STUDIES 400 COURSE DESCRIPTION

NATIONAL SECURITY AFFAIRS

This course covers the Armed Forces as an integral element in contemporary society; specific emphasis on the military profession, civil-military interaction, and the formulation, organization, and implementation of US national security policy. In addition, students study leadership and management, ethical decision making, and communication skills. As 400 is in conjunction with AS 400 leadership laboratory (LLAB).

The academic class is three credit hours and the LLAB is a one credit hour class. The AS 400 curriculum is traditionally taken during the senior year (AS 401-Fall, AS 402-Spring).
