2012 Award Recipients

SBS Outstanding Teacher Award for 2012 – Dr.
Patricia Murphey
Dr. Patricia Murphey, School of
Communication - She
was awarded the SBS Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award because student
comments indicate that she always gives them her full attention, and has taught
them how to confidently make creative decisions.

SBS Part-time Educator Award for 2012 – Sarah
Yercich
Sarah Yercich, Criminology &
Criminal Justice – She
was awarded the SBS Part-time Educator Award because she is a rigorous teacher
and knows her content very well. She
takes an applied approach in content and theory and strives for excellence in
her teaching.

SBS Community Service Award for 2012 - Dr. Marie
Baker-Ohler
Dr. Marie Baker-Ohler, School of
Communication – She
was awarded the SBS Community Service Award for her continuous and unfailing
commitment to the NAU Glendale Community College Communications program. She is
dedicated to inspiring students to make contributions to the community and
becoming responsible individuals in society.

SBS Career Milestone Award for 2012 - Dr. Ann
Huffman
Dr. Ann Huffman, Psychology – She was awarded the SBS Career
Milestone Award because she is an expert in the field of
industrial-organizational psychology and her work on work-family balance in
diverse populations and occupations has gained recognition. She recently was awarded a large external grant
funded by the US Department of Defense to pursue research on work-life balance
in dual-career military families.

SBS Teaching Innovation Award for 2012 – Dr.
Melissa Birkett & Dr. Meliksah Demir
Dr. Melissa Birkett & Dr. Meliksah
Demir, Psychology – were
awarded the SBS Teaching Innovation Award for their work in implementing the
new primary source reader and writing assignments in PSY 101, and for
conducting an empirical study on the impacts of this innovation.

SBS Exceptional Service Award for faculty
for 2012 – Dr. Dayle Hardy-Short
Dr. Dayle Hardy-Short, School of
Communication – She
was awarded the SBS Exceptional Service Award for faculty because she has gone
above and beyond as faculty coordinator of the Forensics team, not only
mentoring these students but making arrangements and traveling with them. She gives of her own time and often money to
help them compete and her dedication and commitment is evident in the time and
energy she puts into it.

SBS Exceptional Service Award for staff for
2012 – Kara Stone
Kara Stone, Criminology and Criminal
Justice – She was
awarded the SBS Exceptional Service Award for staff because she has increasingly
taken on more responsibilities including website content conversion and
assistance with the graduate program.
She is known across the college as having an excellent understanding of
travel policy, procedures, and processing and often provides assistance and
training to other staff.
