Research and teaching interests
Jerry Thull has been involved in communications since 1992
when he began working as an advertising executive for New Times, an alternative
weekly newspaper in Phoenix. After earning a master’s degree in journalism from
the University of Nevada, Reno, he managed the newsroom of a daily newspaper in
Sparks, Nevada. More recently he managed public relations for Grand Canyon
Railway and marketing for the Flagstaff Convention and Visitors Bureau. This
diverse experience has given him the opportunity to observe the media from a
variety of perspectives. His goals as a teacher are to help students understand
the nuances of the industry, develop skills that will make them more effective
in the workplace, and assist them in making rewarding career decisions.
