Angele' Anderfuren is an award-winning journalist with enthusiasm for her work and passion for education. She spent a decade in television news as a producer and writer for TV stations in Chicago, Dallas, Austin, and Salt Lake City before spending over eight years in online and print journalism for local, regional and national publications. Her stories include investigative journalism, long and short form special projects, lifestyle/entertainment/travel pieces, daily news features, and other projects. She has also worked as the communications coordinator, multimedia magazine editor and social media manager for NAU's Alumni Relations, where she produced an Emmy-nominated commercial to debut NAU's new smartphone app.
Angele' has lead her students to several regional Emmy award nominations and wins, including the first Emmy win for a show at NAU in 2013 (produced by students in her EMF 323W course).
Angele' teaches courses in social media (COM 402), multimedia journalism and writing (JLS 399), video production (EMF 326), TV news (EMF 323W), international journalism (JLS 231), and related topics.
Other academic/teaching interests include: newsroom culture, ethics and diversity; Edward R. Murrow and history of television news; journalism-inspired literature, television and films; blogging; freelance reporting; strategic communication; video literature; advertiser influence on news content; food and travel writing; and related topics.
Angele' has a Master of Science degree in journalism (MSJ) from the Schieffer School of Journalism at Texas Christian University as well as a Bachelor of Journalism (BJ) from the University of Texas at Austin. She also has an interest in graphic design and has taken graphic design certificate classes from Loyola University in Chicago. Additionally, Angele' is working on her MFA in Creative Writing.
