Family housing

South Family Exterior

Northern Arizona University is in the process of designing a number of mandated mechanical and fire life safety upgrades to our apartment-style buildings, including South Village Apartments where family housing is located. NAU will be forced to close South Village and other impacted apartments for a period of time to complete the required installation. As a result family housing will not be available for new applicants during this current 2013-2014 academic year.  Available space is anticipated in family housing beginning fall 2014.

Family housing benefits
  • Month-to-month lease
  • Your one monthly payment includes rent and ALL utilities
  • No security deposit required
  • No hidden costs such as redecoration fees, connection fees, utility/security deposits
  • Rent posted directly to student LOUIE account and may be paid with financial aid funds (depending on award funds)
  • Convenient location and easy access to campus transit and local schools
Eligibility

To be eligible for family housing, the husband, wife, or single parent renting the apartment must be a full-time student during the academic year. For married couple apartments, you do not need to be married to apply for housing; you must be legally married before you occupy the apartment.

For family apartments, a parent must have legal custody of one or more children. Your spouse and/or children must reside with you at all times for you to remain eligible for family housing and only members of your immediate family (husband, wife, dependent children under 18 years) may live in the family housing apartment.

Credit requirements

You must carry no less than 12 (undergraduate students) and 9 (graduate students) credit hours each semester during the academic year. During the summer, you must carry 6 credit hours over the summer OR be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester.

If you withdraw from the university

Once you are no longer registered, you must vacate your family apartment within 48 hours of withdrawal. Call your Residence Hall Director (RHD) or Resident Assistant (RA) to make checkout arrangements.
