Funding opportunities for undergraduate research  

There are several ways for students at Northern Arizona University to obtain funding for research-based, scholarly, or creative projects. Learn about some of our available grants, awards, and scholarships that support undergraduate student projects at Northern Arizona University.

Interns-to-Scholars (I2S) program

I2S is a new pilot program designed to enable undergraduates, especially sophomores, to work as paid assistants on faculty scholarly, creative, or research projects in all disciplines. Find out more about the I2S program

Hooper Undergraduate Research Award (HURA)

This annual grant funds student-designed projects in all disciplines. Learn more about HURA.

Student Travel Award program

Funding is available for undergraduate or graduate students to represent Northern Arizona University at conferences. Receive a grant to support your trip through the Student Travel Awards program. 

Hooper Sustainability Award

Ottens Undergraduate Research Grant for Native Americans

Apply for the Ottens Undergraduate Research Grant, which offers research opportunities to top Native American:

  • graduating high school students
  • first and second year college students
  • first-year transfer students attending Northern Arizona University
