Human subjects in research

The Institutional Review Board (IRB) for the Protection of Human Subjects in Research oversees all research conducted by faculty, staff, and students that involves living human beings as participants in a study.


To apply for IRB review, go to and register as a New User. Use the IRBNet Best Resource Ever to help you get started. See Steps for IRB Approval for more instructions. Please Note: Using your browser's back button while working in IRBNet could cause problems with your application. Please use instead the "next" and "previous" buttons within IRBNet.

Amendments: To make an amendment to your research submitted through IRBNet, please follow the instructions for Amendments.

Students: Please remember to “Share” your projects with your Faculty Adviser and request them to “Sign the Package” when you submit your IRB applications on IRBNet. See Special Instructions for Students for more information. Your Faculty Adviser must be registered with IRBNet in order for you to share the project with him or her. 


Faculty: If you'd like students to draft their research plans before working with the online application, have them use this Word Version of the IRB application
