Welcome to Northern Arizona University

I would like to take a moment to welcome you to Northern Arizona University. Whether you are simply passing through our web pages, planning a visit or catching up on news about the university, your interest is important to us.

As someone who is still new to NAU, I continue to marvel at the vibrancy of this beautiful campus and the energy flowing from our students, faculty and staff. A strong sense of community weaves together our diverse population at NAU. We are immersed in the local culture of Flagstaff while experiencing an infusion of global perspectives from international students. Most of us quickly understand why it’s easy to call this place home.

Everything we do at NAU is oriented to student success. A comprehensive network of advisers, peers and coaches, through a variety of programs, complement our talented and dedicated faculty in supporting students of all backgrounds. Our commitment to inclusiveness and a supportive academic community has made it a preferred destination for non-traditional and underrepresented students who are taking the big step of pursuing a university education.

Another role of a major university is to engage in wide-ranging research. NAU faculty contribute to biomedical advances, answer important questions in earth sciences and investigate asteroids—of course, those are merely a few examples. And even in research we open doors to undergraduates, who contribute in labs across campus, as well as in the field.

Involvement is a theme found throughout the NAU experience. In the arts and theater, athletics and student activities, there is always something happening and opportunities abound to participate actively or as a spectator.

Thank you for spending some time with us. We like to say “Only at NAU” because that is such a common response of visitors and students, and I hope you will feel the same way.

Sincerely,
