    Major:
    International Affairs
    Minor:
    Japanese
    Year at NAU:
    Senior
    Hometown:
    Phoenix, Arizona
Why I decided to attend NAU:
The small class sizes and the environment. The people also make it a great place to study.
    Why I joined Honors:
It is a great way to continue to challenge myself. I also love to see the passion that the teachers in the honors program have for their field of study they make the subjects they teach even more enjoyable. The small class sizes allow for more interaction between the students in the class and the professor
  • MLandis

    Margaret Landis

    Major:
    Physics and Astronomy
    Minor:
    Mathematics and Biology
    Year at NAU:
    Senior
    Hometown:
    Bellingham, WA
Why I decided to attend NAU:
Flagstaff is a good place to study physics and astronomy because it is a dark skies city and there is a large astronomy community here. I also wanted to challenge myself by going out of state for university, and NAU was participating in the Western Undergraduate Exchange program so it was affordable to go out of state.
    Why I joined Honors:
I had been an Honors student in high school, and I was ready to be challenged in college as well. I was also looking forward to the smaller class sizes and emphasis on discussion.

    Heidi Sue Moyer

    Major:
    Exercise Physiology
    Minor:
    Psychology and Chemistry
    Year at NAU:
    Senior
    Hometown:
    Tucson, AZ
Why I decided to attend NAU:
I choose NAU because of its size. With a smaller student to teacher ratio, I am able to get the help that I need, learn from professors who LOVE to teach, and be friends with the people who are in my classes. NAU also has a great tuition pledge with the “Four Great Years One Great Rate” promise. My tuition is guaranteed at the same rate for the four years of my education here at NAU. No increase will affect me so I am able to efficiently budget for my education. Between the diverse learning environment and being able to actually pay for my undergraduate education, Northern Arizona University stole my heart and my deposit.
    Why I joined Honors:
As a science major, I have a lot of large classes which are lecture style. I decided that if I wanted to make it though a Bachelors of Science with my sanity, that I would need to counteract this stress with a breath of fresh air. In the Honors Program, I am able to sit in a class of twenty and have my ideas and opinions heard by classmates. The professors are genuinely interested in our progress and ideas in the class which really helps to heighten the learning experience. Being able to write about what I think and feel has helped me to grow as student and also as a person.
  • Anderson

    Kimberly Anderson

    Major:
    Psychology BA
    Minor:
    Family Studies
    Year at NAU:
    Junior
    Hometown:
    Yuma, AZ
Why I decided to attend NAU:
NAU is unlike other universities. Our campus is relatively small and all students have the privilege of enjoying genuinely beautiful weather year-round. I fell in love NAU and Flagstaff during my first tour. I felt that NAU was special, and I was right!

    Why I joined Honors:
The Honors program is respectable and fulfilling. I joined because I love to challenge myself and achieve my full potential in all that I do. Early class enrollment and smaller class sizes were also a huge appeal. As an Honors student, I seldom struggle to register for the classes that I need, and I have the advantage of creating close relationships with my classmates and professors.
  • Cutlip

    Mikayla Cutlip

    Major:
    Interior Design
    Minor:
    Spanish and Art History
    Year at NAU:
    Junior
    Hometown:
    Scottsdale, AZ
Why I decided to attend NAU:
When I began my college search, I was looking to attend a liberal arts school that offered a small community feel and rigorous coursework. I had my sights set on attending an out of state school because I did not think that I could find a university that met my requirements in Arizona. Then, however, I visited the NAU campus and knew that it was the school for me. The NAU community is both friendly and welcoming, and for me, a Scottsdale resident, Flagstaff feels a world away, but is still close enough to home that I can see my family often.
    Why I joined Honors:
The Honors Program provides challenging coursework as well as a smaller community on campus, which are two things that I wanted from my college experience. The Honors Program sponsors events throughout the year as a way to become involved with the program and meet other Honors students. It also has other benefits like early enrollment, smaller class sizes and opportunities to get to know your professors on a personal level. Overall, I think that the Honors Program allows students the benefits of a small liberal arts school as well as the opportuinities offered by a larger university.

Northern Arizona University seemed to fit me perfectly with the smaller size, the distance from my home, the promise of snow, and an array of new outdoor activities!
    Why I joined Honors:
The Honors Program allowed me to meet new people who are as dedicated to their school work as I am. I have made new friends, while enjoying the challenge that the Program has designed.

    Jessie Gould

    Major:
    English
    Minor:
    Biology and Japanese
    Year at NAU:
    Junior
    Hometown:
    Phoenix, AZ
Why I decided to attend NAU:
By the time senior year rolled around, I had no idea what to do.  I didn't have the finances to go out of state, but I knew that I had to get out of the Phoenix heat!  I applied to and accepted my offer from NAU without even seeing the campus first because NAU already felt like home.  Come orientation, I was able to look around and get an idea of what I had signed up for.  Thankfully, it has lived up to and gone beyond my expectations of what a university should be.
    Why I joined Honors:
I have always been inclined to be competitive when it comes to academics, and I knew that I wanted to do something challenging and thought-provoking in college.  The Honors Program was just a natural progression from high school.  From the first time I met other Honors students during Welcome Week, I knew that I was in the right place.  I've continued with the program because of the amazing classes and the incredible discussions I've had with other Honors students both inside and outside the classroom.  It is now so much a part of my NAU experience that I cannot imagine leaving it!

    International Affairs
    Minor:
    Art History and Spanish
    Year at NAU:

Why I decided to attend NAU:
I chose NAU because of its beautiful campus, my acceptance into the Honors Program, my desired major was WUE, and Flagstaff is close enough to home that I could visit whenever I had a free weekend.
    Why I joined Honors:
I've been an honors student almost my whole life and I wanted to continue challenging myself academically at college. I'm also planning on going to law school and I figure that graduating from NAU's Honors program would give me an extra competitive edge.

    Biology
    Minor:
    Spanish
    Year at NAU:
    Junior
    Hometown:
    Phoenix, AZ
Why I decided to attend NAU:
The first time I toured NAU, I was given a tour of the R&D Lab, and as a science major I found it the most fascinating aspect of my entire trip.  After that my choice to come to NAU was a sealed.
    Why I joined Honors:
Growing up I always took honors classes, and so thus continuing on that path seemed the obvious choice for college.  Choosing honors was a great decision; because, it provided me with intimate classroom settings, professors who really care about your progress, and wonderful friendships.
  • Alexis new

    Alexis Rigoni

    Major:
    English
    Year at NAU:
    Sophomore
    Hometown:
    Santa Ana, CA
Why I decided to attend NAU:

NAU has a great English program and a great Biology program, and I needed both because Biology was almost my major. Also, I wanted to experience a place where there are four seasons, unlike where I live in Orange County. Because NAU is on the west coast, I was able to be a part of the WUE program. This was also a deciding factor in coming to NAU.

    Why I joined Honors:
NAU is a relatively big college and I wanted to get to know students in a closer-knit group that have similar academic interests. I also wanted the opportunity to get the best education possible while at NAU, and I feel that the Honors program has given me that opportunity.

Why I decided to attend NAU:
I fell in love with the campus. I had visited colleges all around California and the other western states but when I came to NAU I felt like it was home.
    Why I joined Honors:
I felt that it would be an great and overall beneficial way to challenge myself. I loved the idea of having smaller classes and discussion based classes. I felt that the smaller class setting would allow me to be able to be able to better express my opinions while being able to learn from others. The majority of my classes are large lectures and being able to turn around and go to a small class that challenge me and allows me to learn about myself was just what I needed.

Why I decided to attend NAU:

I wanted to stay in-state to utilize scholarship opportunities and ensure an easy transfer of dual enrollment credits.  Between the 3 in-state universities, NAU was the clear choice for me!  It's the perfect distance from home, it's smaller in size, and it's simply beautiful.

    Why I joined Honors:
I am a person who is very self-motivated, and I wanted to continue challenging myself. I like having smaller classes that are more discussion-based. Also, I thought it would be a great way to meet new people.
