Scholarships and Fellowships

Paying for graduate school can be challenging. We’ve provided you with some resources for finding scholarships to help defray the cost of your education.

How to prepare competitive scholarship applications

If you want advice on how to prepare scholarship applications, we can help.

Northern Arizona University scholarships

There are two separate applications for NAU Foundation scholarships: one available through the Office of Student Financial Aid and the other available through the NAU Foundation.  In order to see what your maximum eligibility might be, you must complete both applications.

A limited number of scholarships are available through the Office of Student Financial Aid. Whether you are a new or continuing student, we encourage you to fill out the NAU Scholarship Application which is available at nau.edu/finaid every January. This application is used to award University Foundation Scholarships and allows the Office of Student Financial Aid to match you up with external scholarships for which you may be eligible.

Complete the NAU Online Scholarship Application by March 1st of each year to be considered for Foundation Scholarships. After March 1st, the application will act as a search engine to assist you with funding external scholarships.

To learn more about scholarships available through the NAU Foundation, click here.  The application program closed at midnight on Thursday, January 31, 2013.

Additionally, your department and college/unit, as well as the Graduate College, offer a limited number of graduate scholarships. Deadlines may vary, so become familiar with the application process and deadlines for scholarships that you are eligible for by visiting your program, department, and/or college websites.

Some university scholarships are need-based; therefore, you should also file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is available January 1st of each year. Visit FAFSA.gov.
