Biography

Marion, born just a few blocks north of the former Arizona State College and NAU’s Old Main, spent her career as an Arizona educator. She taught the creative arts and served as instructor and department head for the Flagstaff, Kingman, and Yuma (One) school districts. She has been recognized internationally, nationally, and statewide for her leadership, her successful legislative activities, and advocacy, and she has received numerous awards including the Marion Quin Dix Leadership Award, Arizona Governors Award, Arizona Education Association Award, and most recently, she and her husband Harold received the Arizona Board of Regents Award. Marion has served on the NAU Foundation Board since 1975, and she has sat on all committees and served in every office. Marion is proud that she learned to crawl on the green lawn of the (now) Blome Building where her parents brought her on cool evenings. Her mother told her: “This is where you will be going to school to be far better educated than anyone in our families.” Additionally, she and her husband met on NAU campus in 1951 and have supported NAU together for many years. The numerous Elliott scholarships assist students across the state in areas including the arts, nursing, finance, and education.
